    • The Town of Smithville 2026 property taxes may be paid online starting December 29, 2025
    • To Smithville taxpayers: With the Post Office making adjustments in how they process mail, and you are mailing a check for property taxes, please mail your payment before the end of the month. Under NYS Tax Law, the postmark date is what controls whether a payment is ontime or late. An alternative would be to take your payment envelope to the window at the Post Office and ask for a hand cancel stamp (today). If you have further questions, please call the Town Clerk's Office at 607.656.7969 opt.1.

  • By NYS Ag & Markets law, all dogs 4 months of age or older must be licensed in the Town in which they reside. To license your dog in the Town of Smithville, visit this page for the application. A valid rabies vaccination is required.
  • *Dog License fees as of September 1, 2022:
    • Unspayed/Unneutered Dog: $15.00
    • Spayed/Neutered Dog: $ 8.50
    • Redemption Fee $ 75.00
    • Fee to mail Dog tag $ 2.00 per dog

    The permits can be obtained at the Town Clerk's Office or printed off from the website for a per job or 1 yr. permit. Permit will need to be signed by Bob Whitmore, Highway Superintendent (cell) (607) 759-0729; fee paid at the Town Clerk's Office.

    Before you build or develop your property, please read over/answer questions on this questionnaire to see if your project needs to be reviewed by the Town Planning Board in a *Site Plan Review.* Even though your project may or may not need a Chenango County Building permit, it may need a Town of Smithville Site Plan Review.     The Town of Smithville Enforcement Officer signs ALL building permit applications BEFORE the permit is taken to Norwich.
  • Please be advised that as of March 17, 2026 there will be a *$50 Signature Fee* for the Town of Smithville Code Enforcement Officer's signature for all Building and Septic permits. This is in addition to any other required fees paid to the Town or the County.
